“Put your laundry away.”
“Whatever.”

“Who’s coming over?”
Some lawyer to see grandma and grandpa.”
“Whatever.”

Can I watch TV?”
“Yeah, go ahead.”
“Whatever.”

Um, what? Whatever is not the appropriate way to end a conversation. Especially when you are asking for something.

I never had the balls to say “Whatever” in response to anything my parents ever said. I still don’t.

I blame TV. Or the “Man.” Or my inability to beat my children when they are rude. Yeah. That’s the one.

“Whatever is not a response. Stop being disrespectful.”
“What?”
“Just stop it.”
“Whatever.”

Sigh.

Sometimes I feel like banging my head against the wall, over and over again, until my brain explodes. Or until it leaks out my ear. Or, you know, whatever.
